“A Systematic View of Jewish Theology”: Part Two – Derech HaShem

A Pre-recorded Digital Video Course

An 8-week pre-recorded Course taught by Yehezqel. This course is based on one of the quintessential handbooks of Jewish thought- “Derech HaShem” (The Way of HaShem) by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto.

Rabbi Luzzatto’s text systematizes the basic principles of Jewish belief regarding the existence of God, God’s purpose in creation, as well as other main concepts in Judaism.

The book is organized into four main sections: the general basis of all existence, God’s Divine Providence and interface with Creation, prophecy and the Human soul, and practical religious observance. The framework for the class was designed so that the student can understand the first parts of the book in our “Part One course” (listed separately in our shop), and then to progress forward to this course (Part Two). It is highly recommended to NOT SKIP around and to take the course as it is outlined in order to understand the book properly. Since this is the systematic view of Jewish theology, it only makes sense to understand Jewish theology in proper order. We do not know anyone who reads the spoiler or ending of a book and then read the beginning. This is the same thought process, to work in proper order of the book because it is a very large book and a very important work of Jewish thought to get through.

Students will focus in general, but not limited, on the following in Part Two of Derech HaShem:

  • Understanding HaShem’s providence
  • How HaShem interfaces with Creation
  • Prophecy from a Jewish point of view
  • Understanding the Human soul
  • Overall Jewish Practical Religious observance

We highly recommend this course as a foundational stepping stone for those serious about Judaism. Especially those of you who are coming out of other religions or who have had previous misconceptions about Jewish thought. We also recommend this course for those who may not know the difference in theology between Judaism and Christianity so that they can understand why Jews believe as they do and why they do not accept the Christian point of view on certain topics even though both religions use the Old Testament of the Bible. After taking this course, students will understand that there is more to Judaism than Shabbat observance and eating kosher- which are one of many physical “outside” attributes. This course will teach you the thought process and the underlying “whys” of the actual belief system of Judaism using Rabbi Luzzatto’s text as its main source. Rabbi Luzzatto is highly regarded as a top scholar and contributor to Jewish theology and an excellent start to your journey into the deepness and richness of Judaism.
